Broadchurch’s Sarah Parish in hospital with broken leg after sledging accident

The Beast from the East has caused chaos across the country this week – and Broadchurch actress Sarah Parish became one of its many victims when she was left with a shattered leg while trying to sledge in the snow.

Sarah, 49, had been playing in the snow with her daughter at home in Hampshire when she broke her leg in a horrific accident.

The actress was using a plastic sledge to whizz down the slope of her garden when she tried to stand up on it – and came a cropper.

She shared a snap of herself being wrapped in a foil blanket and given gas and air by paramedics as they strapped her to a spinal board and carefully brought her to a local hospital.

"Day 2 in Winchester Hospital. Looks like I’ll be operated on today," she captioned another shot of her lying in a hospital bed with her left leg in a cast.

"They’re putting a bloody great big pin right through my shin!! No sleep last night, was on enough Morphine to knock the Navy out but still in pain.

"Note to self: cheap plastic sledges are for sitting in and gently trundling down primary slopes NOT a substitute for a stand up snowboard," she added.

Her friend Amanda Holden sent her love on Instagram, writing: "Darling I just cannot believe this.

"Gin is on its way."

On the day of her accident, Sarah had been filming herself with daughter Nell sliding down the slope of their massive garden on the blue plastic sledge.

"So, at last we have found a use for our rather odd sloped garden," Sarah told the camera as Nell pushed herself off and veered dangerously close to a tree.

"Right, I’m going to have a go now so you can see first-hand what it’s like. OK, here we go!" she yelled as she picked up speed and slammed towards the bottom of the garden.

It’s thought her accident happened shortly afterwards.
