Carrie Underwood Just Hit The Red Carpet For The First Time Since Her Accident

During the 2018 CMT Music Awards on Wednesday, June 6, Carrie Underwood walked the red carpet for the first time since the accident that left her with more than 40 stitches on her face. In November 2017, the Grammy-winner missed a step on her porch stairs while walking her dogs, which resulted in a broken wrist and facial damage.

Underwood remained active on Instagram throughout her recovery, but opted not to post detailed pictures of herself. Naturally, fans worried (and speculated) about her health. She took several months to heal before stepping out, and made her first post-surgery appearance at the Academy of Country Music Awards in April. At the event, she hit the stage to perform her newest single, “Cry Pretty,” but skipped the photo session.

Underwood is nominated for four awards at this year’s CMTs, tying with Jason Aldean and Florida Georgia Line. She also holds the record for biggest winner, with 17 CMT awards under her sparkly belt.

Just this week, the singer announced she would be performing “Cry Pretty” at the event.

Fans of Underwood are familiar with her impressive work ethic, but the accident still weighs heavily on her mind. Earlier this year, she described her accident during an appearance on The Bobby Bones Show.

“I was taking the dogs out to go pee one last time [at night], and I just — I tripped,” she explained. “There was one step, and I didn’t let go of the leashes! Priorities! So that’s why my left hand’s fine. But I went to catch myself and I just missed a step. If I had fallen anywhere else, I would have been perfectly fine. But it was one step that messed everything up.”

Look at her now! Talk about a comeback.

Despite the setback, Underwood has been hard at work this year. She guest-mentored on American Idol (she won Season 4 back in 2006, does time fly or what?) and dutifully promoted her latest single. What a badass! After all, broken limbs and facial lacerations are legitimately traumatizing. Underwood had to spend the holiday season recuperating, and planned her upcoming album, tour, and awards season appearances at the same time. She’s killing it. NBD.

Good to have you back out there, Carrie! Honestly, no one can tell the difference — if there even is one!
