Carson Daly details struggle with anxiety

Given his years of on-air TV experience, you’d never know Carson Daly is struggling on the inside.

“To this day even when I’m on television — if you ever watch ‘The Voice’ live on NBC … I’m never still,” he shared on the “Today” show Friday morning. “People think, ‘Oh he has anxiety, high-pressure life, you’re on television.’ It’s nothing to do with that.”

Daly’s anxiety has caused him to miss out on time with his wife, Siri Pinter, and their three children.

“I’ve had heighten anxiety and mild panic attacks at the playground with my own children and wife there,” he revealed. “The feeling was so gripping and so terrifying that I literally had to leave and excuse myself.”

The 44-year-old former “TRL” host only recently realized he’d always been nervous.

“Looking back on my life, I was a worry-wort kid,” he said. “My father died when I was five … I’ve been nervous my whole life.

“My very first panic attack happened, and, by the way, I didn’t know that at the time, happened when I was a host at MTV,” he added.

Daly has since learned to deal with his anxiety, finding solace in the fact that he knows he’s “going to be OK.”

“I really wear the way I am like a badge of honor,” he said. “This is who I am and I’m proud of it.”
