The Made In Chelsea star – who previously dated Tiffany Watson – opened up about his own experience as he stars in Public Health England’s Protect Against STIs campaign.
The 25-year-old believes reality TV shows need to start taking about sexual transmitted infections more openly – to help “normalise” it.
Speaking to Femail, he said: “It was as a result of making the mistake of not using a condom when I slept with someone new.
“It was a really hard time for me, I had to face the embarrassment of telling a girl I really liked that I’d potentially given her an STI.
“I was quite nervous to admit to everyone, but actually I think the more we talk about these things the better.”
Sam, who also appeared in Celebrity Big Brother, is hoping to get people talking on social media, as well as on TV.
He continued: “I really think we need to start normalising the conversation around condoms and sexual health, so I think that the more people see condoms or hear talk about sexual health in their TV shows and on social media the better.”
The star – whose sister is fellow reality star Louise – revealed that there was a “huge condom stash” in the Big Brother house.
Sam struck up a close friendship with Amelia Lily during his time in the CBB house in 2017 and they were believed to have started dating after leaving the show.
It was, however, short lived and after a stint on Celebs Go Dating, he is currently believed to be single.
Sam is supporting Public Health England’s ‘Protect Against STIs’ campaign to highlight the importance of being sex smart and using condoms. Visit www.nhs.uk/protect-against-stis-use-a-condom for more information
