GOGGLEBOX’S June Bernicoff has thanked hospital staff for taking care of her husband Leon shortly before he passed away.
The fan favourite died yesterday at the age of 83.
June thanked the staff from the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals for their support.
She tweeted this afternoon: “An enormous THANK YOU to all the staff for their superb nursing, care & support given to Leon.
“Everyone was so kind & caring.”
Yesterday thousands paid tribute to Leon, including his former co-star Scarlett Moffatt who told her followers he was “loved by so many”.
June went on to thank well-wishers for their kind words and said: “Thank you folks for all your wonderful messages.
“Leon would have loved reading them & hearing how much he was loved.”
Leon and June met in 1955 before marrying five years later.
The couple went on to have two daughters and proudly revealed they had only spent four days apart from each other throughout their relationship.
When asked about meeting June, Leon told The Guardian: “I fell in love with her immediately.
“My first thoughts about June were: ‘Oh she’s gorgeous.’
“She was a real dolly bird.”
Their relationship wasn’t all plain sailing however, as Leon’s Jewish family were not pleased about his relationship with June, who was raised as a catholic.
