Love Island bosses compare casting process to Tinder

Ahead of the new series of Love Island , which kicks off next month , the show’s producers have teased what they have up their sleeves for the next crop of stars.

Executive producer Tom Gould sat down alongside Caroline Flack and other key figures at ITV2 for the Royal Television Society to discuss what fans can expect from series four of the Bafta-winning show.

When quizzed about how they went about choosing this year’s Islanders, bosses compared the casting process to Tinder as they searched out the next crop of sexy singletons.

Managing Director of ITV Studios Entertainment Angela Jain said they’d been determined not to give fans a repeat of last year’s show.

"We don’t want to cast the same characters every time, we aren’t looking for the next Camilla or the next Montana, that’s the opposite of what we’re looking for," she said.

Last year it was revealed that producers had combed social media, nightclubs and party scenes for the perfect combination of sexy singletons.

Jessica Shears already had a huge social media following before her turn on the show while Kem Cetinay was mates with TOWIE stars Mark Wright and James ‘Arg’ Argent.

But ITV bosses have said there’s one thing this years Islanders can be sure of, they won’t just be sat sunning themselves in the villa for weeks on end – it’ll be hard work in the run up to the final.

"If we’re going to pick a winning couple to win £50,000 at the end, we tell the couples at the beginning that they will be tested, we look for the different ways to pick out the fault lines in the relationship and test them," said Gould.

Newly engaged Caroline Flack admitted she was thrilled to be asked back to present the show, having been a huge fan for years.

"To host something you’d actually watch, that’s the dream. You want to be a viewer too. It was a show I’d loved beforehand," she told the panel.

Caroline said she feels like the Islanders ‘big sister’ when they leave the show. "I’m there to give the advice," she added.

The TV star also revealed her favourite couple ever to be Alex Bowen and Olivia Buckland from 2016.

The good looking pair are one of the show’s biggest success stories and are due to get married later this year.
