Premier League stars up and down the country returned to pre-season training on Monday.
While those away at the World Cup won’t check back in for club duty for a few weeks yet, other players knuckled back down to work ahead of the new Premier League season.
But while you may think of hill sprints and bleep tests when you ponder pre-season – the early days are more about catching up on the players’ physical fitness.
West Ham revealed on their club website the examinations they carried out on their players before they headed to the Swiss Alps for an intensive 12-day camp.
Stars underwent a series of tests including cardiac screening and blood, body fat and musculoskeletal assessments.
While some clubs at the top end of the Premier League will have only a smattering of first-team stars present for training, West Ham have a strong squad on the plane to Switzerland.
Club captain Mark Noble will make the trip, as will fit-again Michail Antonio.
England internationals Aaron Cresswell and Andy Carroll make the trip, as do senior pros Adrian, Pablo Zabaleta and Angelo Ogbonna.
The Liverpool players not involved in the World Cup also returned today, with Jurgen Klopp welcoming Naby Keita for his first day on Merseyside.
Mo Salah gave his teammates a boost by penning a new five-year deal following Egypt’s group-stage exit from the World Cup.
Across Merseyside, Everton also returned, with Theo Walcott and Tom Davies among the players checking in for pre-season.
