Child actor-turned “NYPD Blue” detective Ricky Schroder is selling his beachfront home in Malibu, CA, for $5.45 million amid his divorce from his wife of nearly 24 years.
Schroder appeared on three seasons of the New York cop drama as the baby-faced Army vet Danny Sorenson. Sorenson disappears toward the end of the eighth season of the show, and his body is discovered in a shallow grave at the beginning of the ninth season — presumably killed by the mob.
For Americans of a certain age, Schroder is perhaps better known for his role, on the early 1980s sitcom “Silver Spoons” as the precocious Ricky Stratton, who moves in with his father, an eccentric millionaire.
Off camera, Schroder avoided the vices that brought down other child actors, got married in his early 20s and had four children. His wife, Andrea Schroder, filed for divorce in late 2016.
The Schroders are selling their two-bedroom, two-bath house, which clocks in at a diminutive 1,250 square feet. Originally built in 2007, the house is bright and open, with a beachy feel that makes it seem far larger than its square footage.
The second-story living room has exposed wooden beams, a bank of windows looking out to the Pacific Ocean, hardwood floors and a fireplace. The living room is maximized for space, with a built-in, L-shaped bench that doubles as a couch, and a wraparound porch for indoor-outdoor living.
The living rooms flows into a small, well-designed kitchen with Shaker-style cabinetry, dark granite countertops, a gas range, glass-front refrigerator, farmhouse-style sink and breakfast bar with room for four.
The two bedrooms on the home’s beachfront level have French doors that open to the walk-out deck. The twin ensuite bathrooms have floor-to-ceiling glass walls and large mirrors.
Outside, there’s a wooden deck with lounge chairs, a hot tub and stairs that lead down to the beach. The family’s section of Malibu beachfront has a few rocky outcroppings popular with sunbathing seals.
The Schroders’ four children have each stepped into the spotlight in their own way. Their sons, Holden and Luke, have appeared in minor film roles, while their daughters, Cambrie and Faith, are both models, with more than 170,000 Instagram followers apiece.
