The Loose Women and This Morning host previously admitted her jeans were "baggy" due to the intense training schedule on the BBC reality show.
However, Ruth, 57, said it was impossible to keep the weight off once her time on the dance floor was up.
Speaking at the Tric awards, she said: "The weight just goes on after strictly.
"It was like doing five hours of exercise every day non stop – you can’t recreate that in your real life.
"So of course the weight drops off and as soon as you stop, it all whips back on again."
When asked about her exercise regime, Ruth said she tries to use the gym in their garage as much as she can.
"It's fits and starts for me," she said.
"When you get home at seven o'clock at night, it's the last thing I want to do but sometimes I force myself."
Ruth recently stripped naked for a "trendy" new workout that sees gym goers work up a sweat while completely starkers.
When asked about the experience, she said: "It was just hard to know where to look.
"And I couldn't stop thinking about the sweaty seats on the exercise machines."
This Morning won the Tric special award at today's ceremony.
