Meghan Markle could end up being given away by her future brother-in-law Prince William, a new report claims.
The former actress has apparently asked for her mum Doria Radlan to walk her down the aisle when she marries Prince Harry on May 19.
However, the royals are said to be unsure about having a woman take on the traditionally male role.
And with Meghan reportedly not wanting to heap the task on her ‘reclusive’ father, Thomas Markle, Prince William is now being ‘touted’ as a viable option.
"The royals understand why Meghan might prefer to have her mother, but it’s not exactly traditional to have a woman walk a bride down the aisle," a source told the Daily Star .
"Some of the royals aren’t happy about the idea, so they suggested that William do it. He’s the natural choice.
"It would be a little unorthodox, but this is Prince Harry and he’s certainly not shy about shaking things up."
The Palace declined to comment, but there has been much speculation about whether Thomas has even made the invite list.
Family members reportedly describe the bankrupt former TV lightening director’s relationship with Meghan as ‘difficult’, and according to the report, there are fears that the 73-year-old wouldn’t be able to ‘handle’ being thrust into the spotlight.
What’s more, he’s not on the best of terms with Prince Harry after the royal claimed Meghan has finally found ‘the family she never had’.
Her brother Thomas Jr has not been invited, it was claimed last night.
Thomas, who shares the same dad as the actress, last saw the Suits actress in 2011.
The 51-year-old lives in Grant’s Pass, Oregon, and has complained recently that Meghan has not helped him cope with media attention.
He said his lawyer contacted Meghan’s to ask for help and claims she replied describing Tom as "distant family".
And now it appears Meghan may have snubbed him once and for all by not inviting him to her upcoming nuptials in May.
A source told the Star on Sunday: "Tom did not get an invite."
"I think it is because he just can’t seem to keep his mouth shut.
"If he would quit talking to the media, Meghan would probably be more into the idea of inviting him.
"There are a few people who like to say stuff to have them in the limelight."
Tom is due to get married himself this year to fiancee Darlene.
The pair have had a tumultuous relationship – Darlene was arrested on New Year’s Eve for allegedly attacking him in a drunken row.
The charges were not pursued after Tom declined to assist.
The year before, Tom was arrested for allegedly holding a gun to Darlene’s head.
Again, no charges were brought.
Tom has spoken previously of his immense pride in his younger half-sister, saying Meghan was destined for success from a very early age.
He added: "Being her older brother brought a sense of responsibility. It was nice having Meghan around.
"She brought a lot go joy to our family and being that she brought is closer together.
"I do have a sense of pride in Meghan being successful.
"It was just obvious from day one she was destined to be somewhere really big.
"She is not necessarily a princess but she has carried herself on that level from day one."
