TALKSPORT host Sam Matterface has been hired as the new Dancing On Ice commentator replacing Matt Chapman, the Sun’s Bizarre column can reveal.
Matt yesterday quit the ITV show after one episode due to a clash of schedules.
Sam, who used to be on the faces of Sky Sports News, will make his debut this Sunday.
A telly source said: “Sam is a talented commentator.
“There’s a certain art when it comes to radio commentary – so he’s more than qualified.
“He was the natural presenter and he’s got a face not just for radio.
“Anyone who listens to his talkSPORT commentary will know how enthusiastic he is and how he can have the audience in the palm of his hand.
“Dancing On Ice fans will love him.”
Sam, who was previously married to his co-Sky Sports presenter Natalie Sawyer, regularly commentates the evening Premier League match on Saturdays on talkSPORT.
He has been at the radio station since 2010.
Matt, a racing pundit for the Sun, stepped into the shoes of legend Tony Gubba for the revamped series.
He confirmed: “I’ve decided to hang up my skates, leave the rink and return to the turf.
"I wish the show the best of luck for the rest of the run.”
He is the latest to leave the show after cricketer Monty Panesar was forced to leave after breaking his ankle during training.
Singer Lemar has since stepped in.
A Dancing on Ice source said: “Matt decided he couldn’t make his diary work as he thought.
“He’s a big character and a talented sports commentator but he had some mixed reviews in the first show, and he told ITV that perhaps it wasn’t for him after all.
“It was always going to be a big gig following Tony who did eight series before he died in 2013.
“After Sunday’s show Matt told producers they would have to look elsewhere for a commentator for the rest of the series.”
