Aubameyang had an incredibly awkward moment after Arsenal’s defeat at Newcastle

It isn’t much fun following Arsenal on the road right now.

The Gunners lost their fifth successive away league game on Sunday – all of their away league matches in 2018, basically – at Newcastle, going down 2-1 to strikes either side of half-time from Ayoze Perez and Matt Ritchie.

To make matters worse, it was the third time in those five defeats – with the others coming at Bournemouth, Swansea, Tottenham and Brighton – that Arsenal had taken the lead, which they did on Tyneside in the 14th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s cross was turned in by his strike partner Alexandre Lacazette.

But what followed after that was pretty meek.

And then what followed after full-time was quite embarrassing, for Aubameyang at least.

Because after the forward hugged Perez he went on to high-five matchwinner Ritchie, only for the Scotland international to leave him hanging.

As a symbol for Arsenal’s day it was a pretty accurate one, and – although Ritchie was probably a bit mean, in truth – Aubameyang could do nothing more than skulk off down the tunnel with his tail between his legs.

Which, again, is an accurate representation of Arsenal’s away form right now.
