Antwerpian cool-kid label Vetements — you know, the brand that sold Hanes T-shirts for $700 and Juicy Couture tracksuits for $2,000 — has put their pricey mark on an Adidas’ Stan Smith-style sneaker.
While traditional Stan Smith sneaks will only set you back around $70, the Vetements version — which features the perforated Vetements logo across the top of the shoe — will cost you a cool $785.
A few years back, the OG style was practically ubiquitous, with everyone from Victoria Beckham (a once-staunch opponent of “flat” shoes) to Kanye West sporting the kicks. Even high-fashion designers, Phoebe Philo and Raf Simons among them, couldn’t get enough of their Stan Smiths. Simons even went on to collaborate with Adidas on his own line of co-branded sneakers made after the classic style.
But, now that the low-profile sneaker has fallen out of trend in favor of more voluminous footwear options (a la Balenciaga Crocs and dad shoes), it seems Vetements is trying to keep ’em alive and kicking.
