Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William, along with brother-in-law Prince Harry, arrived at St Paul’s Cathedral in London for the Grenfell Tower National Memorial Service on December 14.

Arriving at the Cathedral, Prince George and Princess Charlotte’s parents dressed in matching navy shades as they entered the service.

The Duchess Of Cambridge hid her baby bump under a smart navy coat, with pleat detail at the bottom and silver buttons.

Meghan Markle’s soon to be sister in law styled the look with navy tights and navy high heels – a fashion statement which has recently caused concern for fans of the Duchess.

However, it was the 35 year old’s hat which fans were overjoyed by, a new look for Kate who usual sticks to more traditional shapes.

Keeping warm while looking stylish, the mum of two – soon to be three – topped the outfit off with a wool panama style hat.

However, it appears the hat choice is more of a sign of respect for the service, as hats in the royal family are usually worn to formal occasions.

Senior tutor for The English Manner etiquette consultancy Diana Mather revealed to the BBC that dress code etiquette states that women wear hats for formal events.

She explained: “Up until the 1950s ladies were very seldom seen without a hat as it was not considered ‘the thing’ for ladies to show their hair in public.

“But all that has changed and hats are now reserved for more formal occasions.”

The colour choice from all three members of the family was also a very respectful choice from the royals.
