Gary Lineker has made an incredible gesture to a girls junior football club after their clubhouse was utterly trashed by mindless vandals.
The Match of the Day host pledged £1,000 to Salford United Junior Football Club Girls to help pay for repairs to their wrecked clubhouse.
Club owners arrived at their facilities to find the changing rooms damaged, paint thrown everywhere and equipment, including kits, goals and nets, all trashed.
A whiteboard had been daubed with racist, homophobic and fascist graffiti.
The offensive material scrawled on the board included graphic drawings of the male anatomy, vile slurs at named people and a Swastika.
Mirror Football has chosen not to share these images.
Salford United JFC Girls tweeted images of the devastation with the caption: "When you work so hard, don’t get paid and all you want to do is provide a safe haven for kids to play football & train but the local youths have other ideas, it’s hard not to get so mad!
"Take a look at some of these images or our home ground clubhouse.
"Not only have our pitches and club house been vandalised but the equipment in there too. Kits, goals, nets, training equipment, changing rooms everything we’ve all worked so hard for – Gone!"
The Twitter account also added that they contacted Salford Council over the incident and are waiting to see if they will be moved to a new home.
The incident was first brought to the attention of Lineker, who earns more than £1.75million a year from the BBC alone, on Monday evening.
He branded the vandalism "sickening".
The club set up a Just Giving page on Tuesday afternoon with the target of raising £5,000 to rebuild the clubhouse, asking for donations.
Lineker quote-tweeted the junior club’s post, writing "done".
On the Just Giving page, a donation of £1,000 made by Lineker can be seen.
Women in Football picked up the club’s original post and quote-tweeted it with the caption: "Not only was their clubhouse trashed, but the disgusting messages of hate left on the walls of a facility used by kids is deeply disturbing & distressing.
"Our heart goes out to those @ salfordjfcgirls. We will post details of how to donate once confirmed."
