Fernando Torres reckons Antoine Griezmann has the ability to be considered in the same bracket as Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi.
But in order for this to become a reality, the France international, and Torres’s Atletico Madrid team-mate, has to start winning trophies.
Griezmann was heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in the summer, before the Red Devils splashed out £75million on then Everton striker Romelu Lukaku.
His most likely destination – should he decided to leave Atletico in the summer – is now La Liga rivals Barcelona, who are well on course to win the Spanish title this season.
And while Torres, who is set to leave Atletico at the end of the season, isn’t suggesting Griezmann do the same, he does believe he needs to start winning silverware for the sake of his progression.
"To be considered at the level of Messi and Cristiano, he is missing titles,’ Torres told Cadena SER. "I hope he gets them at Atletico."
Both Griezmann and Torres were on the scoresheet in Atletico’s 3-0 win over Levante last time out, ahead of third-place Real Madrid’s match with Malaga.
The victory saw them extend their lead over their city rivals to seven points, before Real’s 2-1 win restored it to four with six games left to play this season.
