Twins can be either fraternal or identical, but no matter the case they always seem to share a special bond. It has even been proven that twins develop their own private language that no one else can understand. This also means they tend to be slightly delayed in language development, but hey, as long as they can communicate with their twin, there is no need to stress, right?
One can imagine growing up as a twin kind of means you are always considered ‘the twin’ rather than your own individual person. Many parents dress their kids alike, and twins would probably often be dressed in opposite colors to make it easier for others to know who is who. But all this probably means twins go through a slightly different process of breaking free and finding their true self – a process everyone goes through when we grow up.
We have seen many examples of the twins that make a career of being just that; twins. Several child actors made their big breakthrough from playing twin roles, or as in the case of one of the most famous twins Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen – splitting a role in between them. But we didn’t know there were so many more celebrities who are actually twins. We’ve taken a closer look at celebrities you didn’t know had a twin, because they work normal(ish) jobs. Some of them kept fairly close to their famous twin, working behind the scenes, whereas some of them have actual, regular professions such as real estate agent or nurse.
20 Gisele and Patrícia Bündchen
The Brazilian bombshell Gisele Bündchen is one of the world’s most famous and successful supermodels ever, but it’s not very known that she has a twin sister. Born on the 20th of July 1980 the sisters are of German-Brazilian decent and true beauties, look at them they are gorgeous!
Gisele’s career skyrocketed in 1997 and it was noted in Vogue that she ended the ‘heroin chic’ era of modelling, and brought back the ‘sexy model’. By 2000 she was the world’s hottest model, and introduced to the world the Brazilian bombshell and was the pioneer of all the successful models coming out of the country. That’s a legacy, people! She became a household name when she was made one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels (between 2000 and 2007). Since 2006 she’s been married to American Football star Tom Brady. They have two children, and we doubt many people in the world don’t know who she is.
Her twin sister Patrícia, younger by five minutes, also attended a modelling school together with their other sister (they are five daughters in the family) but never continued any further with modelling. Patrícia has stayed out of the limelight for the most part, but she has the fantastic job of managing her sister’s career, and she is Gisele’s spokesperson. What a day job, huh? According to Gisele, Patrícia was the more popular one when they were younger, because Gisele was bullied for her height. What a comeback to make for her bullies.
19 Ashton and Michael Kutcher
Ashton and his brother Michael was born on the 7th of February 1978 and had very different starts to their lives since Michael was born with cerebral palsy. Ashton has said in an interview that “When I got older, I spent years and years feeling bad about it, our inequalities. He also taught me that he had gifts that I didn’t have. Extraordinary gifts that I didn’t have, and that every time I felt sorry for him in life, I made him less. He taught me that, and he gave that to me.” Wow, that’s powerful, and something that describes Michael’s life pretty amazingly. The businessman graduated with a major in business management and marketing and works as a spokesperson for Reaching for the Stars, and also works for Transamerica Retirement Services.
Ashton has had a successful acting career with the hit TV-show “That 70s Show” where he met his future wife Mila Kunis, with whom he has two children. He’s one of the main characters on “Two and a Half Men”, and he has also acted in the movies “Dude Where’s my Car” and “The Butterfly Effect”. More recently he is acting in the Netflix series “The Ranch” and has established an international human rights organization. Wow, two brothers that really make use of their platform and doing something amazing with it.
18 Scarlett and Hunter Johansson
Hollywood bombshell Scarlett Johansson has done what most actors fail to do, go from a child actor to having a successful career as an adult. With great performances in “Lost in Translation” and “Match Point”, and now her part as the Black Widow in the “Marvel” franchise. She is since May 2017 the highest-grossing actress of all time with her films making over $3.6 billion! Now that is girl power! Johansson has had a personal life that’s been written about quite a bit in the media. She was married to Ryan Reynolds from 2008 to 2011, and then to the French businessman Romain Dauriac from 2014-2017, with whom she got a daughter. However, her brother seems to have a more low-key personality and stays out of the media.
Hunter often joins his sister on red carpets but haven’t really acted since his only film project, starring his sister, in the ‘90s. Instead, he has done work within the political world. Both as a community organizer for Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer’s office in New York, but even more impressively: in 2008 he worked with the campaign and re-election of President Obama. Brains, huh!
17 Jon and Dan Heder
Jon Heder was a student at university when he met Jared Hess who wanted Heder to play the part of “Napoleon Dynamite” in his short film. The short was met with great enthusiasm and reviews and was turned into a movie which debuted at the Sundance Film Festival and won numerous awards. Today the movie “Napoleon Dynamite” has reached the status of a cult classic and earned $44.5 million at the box office when it was released, and at the time of the shooting, he was just paid $1000.
Since the release of Napoleon Dynamite Heder has done acting jobs in movies such as “Just Like Heaven” with Reese Witherspoon and “Blades of Glory” with Will Ferrell, as well as some voice acting.
His twin brother Dan is also active in show business. He has been credited with several producer gigs and has acted in various short films over the years, but it seems like he is more active behind the scenes rather than on the silver screen. The identical twin brothers were born in Fort Collins, Colorado on the 26th of October, 1977 but moved to Salem, Oregon two years later where they lived with their parents and three siblings.
16 Vin and Paul Diesel
Vin Diesel is one of the most liked and popular actors today, with great success with the movie franchise “Fast and Furious” and more recently the Marvel studios movies.
Diesel has always been very keen on keeping his private life out of the media, a big difference from what other actors and famous people do. Born Mark Sinclair, he took the stage name Vin Diesel to distance his media persona further from his personal life.
But in 2015 the media caught up with a rumor that he had a twin brother, who lived far away from the spotlight, and the rumors turned out to be true. While there were false pictures spread of the brother, Vin Diesel took matters into his own hands. He posted a real photo of his brother so that the media would stop speculating and for the sake of the other man in the fake images. What a sweetheart, and no wonders he is so well liked!
The twin brothers Marc Sinclair and Paul Vincent were born July 18th, 1967 and were raised by their mother and their stepfather. The two brothers have genuinely taken different paths in their lives. Little is known about Vin’s family, and ultimately he prefers it that way. His brother – well he gets to live the normal life outside of the spotlight which we assume is what he wishes to have.
15 Tasha and Sidra Smith
Identical twins Tasha and Sidra Smith were born in 1971 in Camden, New Jersey. Tasha made her screen debut with a small role in the movie “Twin Sitters” in 1994, at the age of twenty-three. She has also starred in movies like Playas Ball, and Couples Retreat with Vince Vaughn and Jason Bateman.
Tasha has also appeared in a lot of television films and programs. She was a recurring role on “Boston Common” and “Meet the Browns”, and has done several guest starring cameos on big TV shows such as “Nip/Tuck”, “Without A Trace”, and “Power”. Today we get to see Tasha Smith in the role of Carol Holloway in Fox musical drama Empire, an award-winning TV show that centers around a fictional hip-hop and entertainment company. Tasha has also taken the step into directing short films, television movies and episodes for TV.
Tasha’s sister Sidra may have stayed out of the spotlights, but she hasn’t strayed too far away. Starting her career casting music videos for hip-hop stars like Dr Dre, Sidra moved on to creating her own casting company. Since then, Sidra is now also producing documentaries, TV-shows and feature films. If that wasn’t enough, she also has her own event planning business. Phew! These women don’t rest!
14 Rami and Sami Malek
Rami Malek is the man of the moment. Playing the lead role since 2015 in the hit series “Mr Robot” and playing the part of Freddie Mercury in the upcoming movie “Bohemian Rhapsody”, a biopic about the legendary group Queen. Prior to this, he has gained fame from playing the pharaoh in the “Night at the Museum” films. He also had a minor part in the Twilight saga, a recurring role in the series “24” and played PFC Merriell “Snafu” Shelton in the 2010 miniseries “The Pacific” with the producer Tom Hanks!
His identical twin brother Sami Malek has taken a different path in life and is teaching at a school in Los Angeles, California. According to reports, he has been working as a teacher for the past 13 years. Talk about having the coolest teacher, whose brother is the Mr Robot star! However, Sami seems to stay out of the spotlight for the most part.
The brothers were born on May 12th, 1981 and are both born and raised in Los Angeles. Coming from Egyptian and Greek descent, no wonder the handsome Rami was the perfect fit to play a pharaoh! Rami has said in interviews that they have been taking advantage of their identical looks and we don’t blame them one bit. Look at that face!

13 Alanis and Wade Morissette
Alanis Morisette is an American-Canadian singer, songwriter and actress. She was born in Ontario, Canada in 1974, twelve minutes after her twin brother Wade. Alanis began her music career in Canada in the early 90’s with moderate success, and it wasn’t until she moved to Los Angeles and released the now cult album Jagged Little Pill in 1995 with which she reached worldwide fame. It is still today her most critically acclaimed work, and it has definitely put her on the map as a queen of alternative rock.
Apart from her well-known music career, Alanis Morisette has also done quite a bit of acting. She had small cameos in HBO mega shows “Sex And the City” and “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, and appeared in three episodes of “Nip/Tuck”. You might also have seen her in her recurring role as an obstetrician on TV show Weeds.
Alanis’ brother Wade is first and foremost a professional yoga teacher, reiki master, and yoga therapist. After getting inspired on a trip to India, he has also released a couple of albums in English/Sanskrit chanting. He leads a number of retreats, training and workshops, and has said about his twin sister Alanis that she is “one of the biggest influences in my life”. Aww!
12 Samantha and Charlotte Ronson
Samantha Ronson – can you hear that name without thinking of Lindsay Lohan circa 2008? Us neither! Born in 1977 as the daughter of writer and socialite Ann Dexter–Jones and real estate mogul Laurence Ronson, the London native moved to New York City at the age of six.
Fast forward to 2002, Ronson has said she was called up and asked to DJ in a club she frequented, and her friends convincing her to book the gig. She started making a name for herself quite quickly and managed to make it into her full-time job. She worked as a DJ for MTV’s New Year’s Eve show, and has also been booked for private events for celebrities like Nicole Richie, Jimmy Kimmel, Natalie Portman, Ellen DeGeneres and Jay-Z (I mean, wow!). Ronson has also released two studio albums, one as a solo artist and one as a band called Ocean Park Standoff.
Samantha’s twin sister Charlotte has definitely chosen a life out of the tabloids. Charlotte Ronson is a fashion designer, and her brand The Charlotte Ronson brand has been worn by celebrities such as Gisele Bündchen, Kate Moss, Ellen Pompeo, Gwen Stefani and Winona Ryder.
11 Kiefer and Rachel Sutherland
Kiefer and Rachel Sutherland were born in 1966 in London while their father, Donald Sutherland, was working on a movie. Their parents split up and divorced when they were three years old, and they were raised in Canada by their mother, Shirley Douglas (also an actress) and had minimal contact with their famous dad. Though the story has a happy ending as they reconnected, and now have a close bond according to Kiefer.
With a successful father in the entertainment business like Donald Sutherland, we assume it’s probably hard for any of his children not to follow in his footsteps. Kiefer has had a long and successful career beginning in the ‘80s with roles in “The Lost Boys” for example, but he is most notably famous for his role as Jack Bauer in “24” which ran from 2001 to 2010. Though the schedule was tight for Sutherland as he was in every single scene more or less, it paid off as he at the time was the highest-earning actor on television.
Rachel on the other never felt the urge to be on the stage; she has taken a less prominent role in the same industry as her family members. She started off as a costume designer and nowadays Ms Sutherland works as a post-production supervisor for many different shows.
10 Isabella and Isotta Rossellini
Isabella and Isotta, two Italian twin sisters who were born in Rome in 1952, doesn’t sound too dramatic, does it? However, their lives began in the midst of the Hollywood scandal regarding the romance between their mother and father. Their mother was no one other than Hollywood icon Ingrid Bergman (considered to be the fourth-greatest female screen legend by the American Film Institute – boss lady!), and their father Roberto Rossellini was an Italian film director. The parents ultimately split up, and the twins were raised between Rome and Paris.
The twins would take very different paths in their lives and choice of careers. Isotta became a professor of Italian literature, which is pretty impressive, don’t you agree? And Isabella went to New York at 19 and worked with television, married famous director and producer Martin Scorsese (“The Wolf of Wall Street” and “ The Departed” if that rings a bell?). At 28 her modeling career began – yay there is still hope! Her photos have been shown in magazines such as Vogue, Vanity Fair, and ELLE, so it’s safe to say she was pretty successful.
She became the exclusive spokesmodel for the international cosmetics brand Lancôme from 1982-1996, the contract ended because she got “too old”. Rossellini was rehired by the new CEO in 2016 at 63. BAM. More recently she has also done some acting, just like her momma did.
9 Eva and Joy Green
Two beautiful twin sisters that are described by their father as “complete opposites”. One is an actual Bond girl and the other prefers the quiet countryside lifestyle.
Born in 1980 to a French mother, actress Marlene Jobert, and a Swedish father, Eva and Joy Green had an upbringing that seemed to distinguish them from one another. During school, where they learned both French and English, they found their separate passions according to their father. Eva displayed a talent for the arts such as music and theatre. Joy, on the other hand, fell in love with riding and everything that had to do with horses. Eva has said in an interview that the girls were quite competitive when they were younger and that it was probably for the best that they didn’t share the same passions. They used to be quite nasty to each other (everyone with a sister is like #relateable). But today, the sisters are very close and proud of each other’s accomplishments. Sisters are the best after all!
After finishing school the two sisters showed their different sides, even more, no two peas in a pod here. Joy went to business college and is now married to an Italian man and lives in the countryside in Normandy breeding horses. Eva, on the other hand, followed her passion and studied drama in both Paris and London, where she attended a prestigious drama school. In 2006 she was the Bond girl in “Casino Royale” – and that’s like, really cool.
8 Parker and Christopher Posey
During the late 1990’s, and after having co-starred in 32 independent films, Parker Posey was only in her mid-twenties when she was nicknamed “Queen of the Indies”. That’s a title that has definitely stuck with her. Though she later said in an interview that big studios didn’t want to hire her because of her Indie-label. Something she found to be a struggle and a shame but didn’t take away the fun of her job.
As a little girl, she was hoping and dreaming of becoming a dancer and auditioned at age 12, at the North Carolina School of the arts after having done an internship there, though she didn’t get in. Her teacher nevertheless said to her father; ‘Your daughter is so funny and fast, the teachers love her, the kids love her. She’s an actress. She’s not a dancer.’ And it seems like that teacher inspired her in her choice of career.
Her brother Christopher Posey took an entirely different career path and is practicing law in Atlanta. The siblings were born in Maryland but gained their Southern roots after growing up in Monroe, Louisiana and later Laurel, Mississippi – not a surprise that the brother stayed in the south while Parker found fame.
7 Laverne Cox and M Lamar
Laverne Cox was born in Mobile, Alabama, where she was raised together with her twin brother M Lamar by her single mother and grandmother. She had a tough childhood being bullied for not acting “the way someone assigned male at birth was supposed to act”, but went on to study dance at Alabama School of Fine Arts. Cox later moved to New York City to continue her studies, and that was also where she decided to switch from dancing to acting. And we’re happy she made that choice!
Laverne Cox made her first TV performance as a contestant on I Want To Work For Diddy, and after that VH1 approached her to develop and produce her own makeover television show; TRANSForm Me. Both shows were nominated for GLAAD media awards, and Cox is still today a fierce LGBTQ advocate.
Laverne Cox became a household name after she appeared on Netflix TV show “Orange Is the New Black” in the role of Sophia Burset, a trans woman sent to prison for credit-card fraud. This role has undoubtedly given Cox a fantastic platform to speak on the rights of trans people, and she is definitely using it!
Twin brother M Lamar is a composer, performer and musician based in New York. He appeared on two episode of Orange Is the New Black, playing pre-transition Sophia, Marcus, although most viewers thought it was Laverne Cox doing the role.
6 Linda and Leslie Hamilton
Linda Hamilton is an American actress who was a major star in the 1980’s and 90’s. She starred in a couple of television productions before getting the lead role in horror movie “Children Of the Corn”, based on the short story by Stephen King. The movie was a success and has since reached cult status. After this promising start, Hamilton was cast to play the female lead in The Terminator, another massive critical and commercial success film, and also starred in Black Moon Rising.
Going back to television, Linda Hamilton was cast in “Beauty and the Beast”, a show for which her performance won her an Emmy award and a Golden Globe nomination. In 1991 she was back on the big screen shooting “The Terminator 2”, a movie that turned out to be the highest grossing film of that year. Hamilton received two MTV Movie Awards for her role: for Best Female Performance and the other for Most Desirable Female.
Although she’s starred in many feature films and television productions since it is for her role in The Terminator movies she’s most known. It was actually in “The Terminator 2” her twin sister Leslie Hamilton made her first and only acting appearance, as her sister’s double. Leslie now works as a professional nurse – an entirely different role one can imagine!
5 Joseph and Jacob Fiennes
Jacob Fiennes is the brother of Lord Voldemort and the twin of Commander Fred Waterford… wait let’s start again. Jacob Fiennes is the brother of the famous actors Ralph Fiennes and stage actor Joseph Fiennes is his twin.
The twin brothers were born in 1970 into a somewhat noble family, their real surname is Twisleton-Wykeham-Fiennes (yeah we’d stick with just Fiennes too) and grew up in England with their four siblings.
Jacob is the only one of the six siblings who hasn’t worked in the arts and has mostly stayed away from the spotlight even if his brothers have gained a lot of fame. He is noted for being a gamekeeper and a conservationist, sounds very posh doesn’t it? But he has said “I’m very different from the rest of my family. I’m a country boy at heart, and I like the quiet life…Our father was a farmer before he became a photographer. I have probably inherited his rural genes since I love the peaceful country life”.
Joseph Fiennes trained for three years at the London’s Guildhall School of Music and Drama graduating in 1993. After working on stage, with television productions and movies he was in 1998 playing parts in two Academy Awards nominated movies, “Shakespeare in Love” and “Elizabeth”. More recently he has gained fame for his characters in “American Horror Story” and as the creepy Commander Fred Waterford in “The Handmaid’s Tale”.
4 Rosie and Lily Fortescue
Rosie has found fame through the British reality series “Made in Chelsea”, which follows the lives of the young rich socialites of London. Rosie was on the show from the very start in 2011 but quit in 2017. Her fame has given her over half a million followers on Instagram that seek inspiration from her stylish wardrobe and outfits, as well as gawk at her luxurious lifestyle. She credits herself (in her Instagram bio) to be a fashion blogger for her blog “At Fashion Forte” and a jewellery designer for her brand Rosie Fortescue Jewellery. After finishing her private school education (the same school that Kate Middleton once went to…), she studied History of Art at college and is still a lover of art, design and fashion.
Rosie shares her birthday, born on the 3rd of January 1990, with twin sister Lily. Aww, flower themed names, how cute! The sisters are not identical, but they both love their pups who are pretty much insta famous. Lily is the less famous of the twins, though she has an impressive 60,000 followers that get a glimpse of her fabulous life. Back in 2016 Lily launched a dating app called Ciao, and prior to that, she had her own underwear brand. Today she is working with brand consulting and event planning. The sisters might not look identical, but it’s safe to say that they have more or less identical interests.
3 Justin and Jason Chambers
Doctor Kar.., sorry, Justin Chambers, was born in 1977 in Springfield, Ohio, where he was brought up alongside his twin brother Jason. Although both parents were deputy sheriffs, Justin grew up aspiring to be a dentist, but we’re all eternally grateful he found his true calling in life. He was discovered by a model scout on the metro, as one typically is, and quickly made a name for himself in the modelling world.
Modelling for Armani, Calvin Klein, and Dolce Gabbana, Justin Chambers traveled all over the United States, Europe and all the way to Japan. However, he felt that acting was the path he was more passionate about, so he returned to New York to attend performance art school and pursue his real dream. His acting debut came with a recurring role in the soap opera Another World, and went on to star in several other TV productions and features films, such as Liberty Heights and The Wedding Planner. In 2004 he became Doctor Alex Karev with the whole world in Shonda Rhimes award-winning medical drama Grey’s Anatomy, and the rest is as they say history.
His twin brother Jason Chambers has decided to lead his life entirely out of the public eye, so much so, that we haven’t even been able to find out what he does for a living. Perhaps that is just the way he wants it to be!
2 Mo & Hassan Farah
Sir Mohamed Muktar Jama “Mo” Farah, is the most successful distance runner in the United Kingdom’s modern Olympic games history. He mostly competes in five or ten thousands meter tracks and has won the gold medal in the Olympics and the World Championships in Athletics. Farah is the current European record holder for the 1500 m, 10,000 m, half marathon and two miles, and is the most decorated athlete in British athletics history.
Mo Farah was born in Mogadishu, Somalia in 1983, where his British born father was working as a businessman. Due to political conflict, the family had to flee the capital, and consequently, Farah spent his early childhood growing up in a refugee camp. At the age of eight, he was able to join his father in London, and it was at school his physical education’s teacher discovered his athletic talents.
When Mo Farah moved to London, his twin brother Hassan was too ill to travel, so he stayed behind with relatives. When their father returned to Somalia to bring his long-lost son back with him to England, he could not find where he and the family he was living with had moved. After twelve long years apart, the twin brothers were finally reunited in London where Hassan Farah now works as a telecoms engineer.
1 Jerry & Terry Hall
Jerry Hall was one of the biggest names in the modeling industry in the 1970’s and 80’s. She was discovered sunbathing on a beach on the French Riviera, and soon after moved to Paris where she shared an apartment with fellow models Grace Jones and Jessica Lange. By 1977 she had been on forty magazine covers, including industry giants such as Italian Vogue and Cosmopolitan.
Her long blonde hair and her impressive height of six feet made her an instant media darling, and the industry loved her. It probably helped her fame further that she was linked first to Bryan Ferry, the singer of the band Roxy Music, and later Mick Jagger, whom she also married and had four children with. The couple divorced in 1999, and in 2016 Jerry’s engagement with business mogul Rupert Murdoch was announced. Suitably so, in one of his own newspapers, The Times.
Jerry Hall has in later years also ventured into the acting in movies, television productions, and stage plays. Her sister, Terry Hall, works as a real estate broker. A slightly calmer business than her sister’s choice of career.
