Did you know that Love Island’s Marcel Somerville was in Blazin’ Squad? Well he was definitely in Blazin’ Squad.
We mean, it’s not like he has made a big deal out of it or anything, so it comes as a surprise that the band’s streams have shot up on Spotify. Hmm, we wonder why?
Since the ITV2 show started last week, Spotify streams for Blazin’ Squad have risen by 2,500%, marking a new high for the band who had a number of Top 10 hits in the early 2000s.
Their 2002 song ‘Crossroads’ hit number one in the charts, while ‘Flip Reverse’ peaked at number two a year later.
However, the 10-piece group gradually disappeared from the limelight in the ensuing years. Maybe a revival is on the cards?
While everyone has had the fact that Marcel was in Blazin’ Squad incinerated into their brains, one islander who mysteriously evaded news of the group’s success was Dom.
“No, obviously I used to be in the Blazin’ Squad when I was a kid. Dom, how could you not know bruv?” Marcel told him.
Dom then said: “Marcel was part of the Blazin’ Squad! I didn’t know! I just thought he was an absolute boss anyway, but now he’s just a bigger boss.”
“Dom had no clue,” Marcel later said in the Beach Hut. “He just thought I was this cool dude that they just put in here. I’m a really humble dude, I usually don’t, like, bring it up for conversation.
“I’m never usually like, ‘yeah, I’m from Blazin’ Squad, I do this, I do that’. I’m not really that kind of guy. Dom seemed like he was really gobsmacked by it, so it’s cool.”
Yeah, you’ve totally been hiding that secret, Marcel…
