Britain’s Got Talent judge Simon Cowell is absolutely convinced that Ant McPartlin will be back to co-host the show alongside Dec Donnelly next year.
Ant and Dec have been hosting the ITV talent show together since it began in 2007 but this year Dec has been presenting the live shows alone following Ant’s conviction for drink driving earlier this year.
Ant has since been to rehab and stepped back from all of his TV commitments, but Simon is pretty sure that Ant will be back on the BGT stage next year.
“He’s not a bad person, he’s not the only person these things happen to,” he told The Mirror. “He’s in the public eye. It’s a wake-up call. It’s as simple as that.”
And he added that he plans to ensure Ant receives additional support when he’s back at work, saying: “Maybe the pressure was more than I realised.”
“He’s not a malicious person, he’s just got himself into a place,” he continued. “But he has owned it and he’s going to deal with it.
“He’s taken a step back because his health is way more important than a TV show. I’m almost certain he’ll be back next year. And we want him back.”
But while Simon is keen to have his presenting team back up to full strength for the next series, he praised Dec for his solo presenting skills.
“Dec has been unbelievable. I have tremendous respect for him. He’s been a revelation,” he said.
Britain’s Got Talent airs its live final tonight (June 4) at 7.30pm on ITV.
The final will see Lost Voice Guy, the D-Day Darlings, Donchez Dacres, Calum Courtney, Robert White, Gruffydd Wyn, DVJ, Jack and Tim Goodyear, Micky P Kerr and the Giang Brothers battle it out to win a place at the Royal Variety Show.
