Topping off a pretty decent year which so far has included headlining Glastonbury and selling millions of copies of his critically-acclaimed album Divide, Ed Sheeran has just received his MBE.
He was given the award for his services to music and charity today (December 7) by Prince Charles at Buckingham Palace.
After receiving the honour, the 26-year-old singer and songwriter said: “‘Do you know what I love, my grandfather [Bill Sheeran] was a massive royalist, he had all the commemorative plates and stuff.
“And he died on this day four years ago, so it’s actually quite a nice full circle thing, I guess he’d be pretty proud.”
Sheeran was also asked by reporters following the ceremony whether he’d perform at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding next year, to which he replied: “Yeah, why not.”
Ellie Goulding performed at Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding back in 2011.
Meanwhile, it was recently revealed by #YouTubeRewind that it was Ed Sheeran’s year (again), with the British singer appearing at #1 for both the video and music lists.
He topped the UK Trending Video List with his Carpool Karaoke with James Corden, and hit the top spot on the UK Trending Music Video List with his hit single ‘Shape of You’.
Eminem also announced that he will be collaborating with the star on his new album Revival.
