Jay-Z Rocks Colin Kaepernick Jersey During ‘SNL’ Performance

The Jiggaman performs his song ‘Bam’ with Damian Marley during the premiere episode of ‘Saturday Night Live’ new season.

Jay-Z continued to show his support for Colin Kaepernick. The rapper donned a No. 7 jersey with the NFL player’s name written on the back when he was performing on the first episode of “Saturday Night Live” new season over the weekend.

The hip-hop mogul paid tribute to the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback when performing his song “Bam” with Damian Marley. The rhymer also performed another track called “4:44”. Both songs are taken from his latest studio album.

Colin Kaepernick sparked controversy in 2016 when he refused to stand up when the national anthem was being played in protest of racial injustice. He became a free agent after the season ended. There were speculations that he was snubbed due to his political views but NFL commissioner Rogert Goodell denied the rumors.

This year, more and more football players across the country have taken a knee in solidarity to support equality. The silent protest was condemned by President Donald Trump, but his comments only added fire to it. The athlete locked arms and raised their fists in response to his rant.

President Trump and his administration were mocked over their response to the kneeling protests on “SNL”. In one sketch that saw Alec Baldwin returning as Trump, Aidy Bryant’s Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she was not proud of how she handled “the NFL thing.” She explained, “I’m a little embarrassed that I said it’s a black and white issue. I should have said it’s a black versus white issue.”

On “Weekend Update”, Michael Che roasted the NBA commissioner who “expected players to follow league rules and stand during the national anthem.” The comedian quipped, “OK. The NBA is, what, 130, 140 percent black? What exactly are you going to do if they all decide to kneel? Have a game between the New York Porzingis and the San Antonio Ginobili?”

Rumor has it, Jay-Z and Justin Timberlake were in talks to perform at the halftime show during 2018 Super Bowl but the Jiggaman turned down the offer. JT is now rumored to finalize a deal to headline the annual football championship.
