The Slim Shady unloads his burden while Beyonce Knowles sings on the hook in the first single from his new studio album ‘Revival’.
Eminem is officially back. A month after his politically-charged freestyle at the BET Awards, the Slim Shady releases a brand new single called “Walk on Water” that features none other than Beyonce Knowles. It’s expected to be featured in his next studio installment called “Revival” as he announced on Twitter, “I’MMM BACK #WalkOnWater #Revival @Beyonce #ShadyBack.”
“I walk on water, but I ain’t no Jesus /I walk on water, but only when it freezes,” Queen Bey kicks off the melodic piano ballad with a catchy hook. She later belts out more lines, ” ‘Cause I’m only human, just like you /Making my mistakes, oh if you only knew /I don’t think you should believe in me the way you do /’Cause I’m terrified to let you down.”
In his signature fiery rant, Eminem spits about the pressure of living up to his own reputation, “It’s the curse of the standard, that the first of the Mathers disk set /Always in search of the verse that I haven’t spit yet, will this step just be another misstep /To tarnish whatever the legacy, love or respect I’ve garnered? the rhyme has to be perfect, the delivery flawless /And it always feels like I’m hitting the mark, ‘tIl I go sit in the car, listen, and pick it apart like, ‘this s**t is garbage.”
It’s been four years since the 45-year-old rapper dropped an album. His last one called “The Marshall Mathers LP 2” was released in 2013. He collaborated with Gwen Stefani in a song for the 2015 movie that he produced “Southpaw”, and recorded another solo track for the film. He joined forces with Big Sean on “No Favors” for the latter’s album and recently teamed up with Pink on “Revenge” for the reissue of her new album “Beautiful Trauma”.
Details of Eminem’s new album are still scarce, but he is scheduled to perform on “Saturday Night Live” on November 18 with Chance the Rapper as a host.
