After clearing up confusion over the album’s title, which could be misinterpreted as men’s rights activism, Adam Levine and his bandmates release another track off the upcoming album.
Maroon 5’s “Red Pill Blues” may make its way out to stores on November 3, but that doesn’t stop the band stop from releasing another countdown track off the upcoming effort. Following the release of “Whiskey” featuring A$AP Rocky, Adam Levine and his bandmates has unleashed a new track entitled “Wait”.
The moody-pop song showcases Levine’s soothing vocal as he sings about someone who begs his lover for forgiveness. “Oh, let me apologize/ I’ll make up, make up, make up, make up for all those times/ Your love, I don’t wanna lose,” he rhymes. “Can we talk for a moment?/ Got these feelings that I’m tired of holding on/ Wasn’t tryna get wasted/ I needed more than three or four to say this.”
“Wait” is the fifth track that Maroon 5 unveiled before the release of the album. Ahead of the release, the band has cleared up confusion over the album’s title “Red Pill Blues”, which could be misinterpreted as men’s rights activism phrase, in an interview with Huffington Post.
They revealed they had no idea that the phrase could have another meaning, stating that the name was a reference to popular movie “The Matrix”. “We didn’t really understand the whole men’s rights thing,” the band’s guitarist, James Valentine, said. “We were talking about the scene in ‘The Matrix’ — do you take the red pill or the blue pill? We had no idea about the association with men’s rights.”
He continued, “Hopefully, everyone knows from all of our pasts that from our statements on the issue and our action in the past — that we are all hardcore feminists in the band. So that’s a horrible association, ugh, to have. The internet trolls have to ruin everything.”
When asked whether or not they would change the album’s title, Valentine said that it was too late to do that. “It’s out there and I think it’s maybe too late,” he said. “I think maybe we can reclaim [it] for the good side.”
