Taylor Swift has emerged from her secret hiding place to celebrate the achievements of basketball player Russell Westbrook – and to reveal some unexpected inspiration behind one of her singles.
(We didn’t know Taylor was a basketball fan either, but bear with us.)
While congratulating Oklahoma City Thunder’s Russell for his recent NBA’s Most Valuable Player award, T-Swift shocked us all with the true meaning behind ‘Shake It Off’.
Yep, that song we couldn’t get out of our heads for weeks isn’t about sticking it to the haters at all – it’s about getting over sucking at sport. (Not really.)

In a video message to Russell, Taylor explained: “I was the one who taught you how to play basketball, I was the one who taught you to dribble, to shoot hoops.
“I remember the first time you beat me at basketball, and I was very upset and you said, if you remember correctly, you said ‘You just have to shake it off’ and I got an idea,” she deadpanned.
“So essentially we have each other to thank for these careers, obviously.”

Sadly, although not surprisingly, T was just messing with us. “Actually, we’ve never met and that’s a fake story,” she said to the camera. “But I wish it were the truth.”
So do we, guys. So do we.
