Ben Duckett suspended for pouring drink over head of Jimmy Anderson in same bar of Jonny Bairstow’s ‘headbutt’ incident

ENGLAND Lions batsman Ben Duckett has been suspended after pouring a drink over the head of Jimmy Anderson in the same bar where Jonny Bairstow’s ‘headbutt’ incident occurred.

Duckett, who was convicted of drink-driving in 2015, was just having a bit of fun with the England fast bowler.

But England coach Trevor Bayliss admitted he was “fed up” of having to talk about players’ behaviour – and confirmed the incident was “fairly trivial” but still “not acceptable”.

He said: “I’m not sure what more I can say but I’m sure there will be some stern words from above.”

Duckett, 23, was dropped at the last moment from the match against a Cricket Australia XI in Perth today which featured a mixture of Lions and Ashes squad players.

He is at the centre of an investigation involving head coach Trevor Bayliss, Lions coach Andy Flower and England supremo Andrew Strauss, who is back home in the UK.

Other players – including senior members of the Test squad – were believed to be present and might be drawn into the probe.

Sunsport understands an incident took place in a bar in Perth on Thursday night/Friday morning.

It did not involve a member of the public and was something that happened among the group of England cricketers. The police were not called.

The curfew had been relaxed and players were given the evening off and allowed to go out socialising. England team security staff were present in the bar at the time.

The scandal will provide further embarrassment for an England team still rocking from Ben Stokes’ involvement in the Bristol brawl.

Stokes’ case has been handed by the police to the CPS and he is waiting to find out if he is to be charged.

Three players – Jonny Bairstow, Jake Ball and Liam Plunkett – were fined for being out late the same night and accepted a warning for “unprofessional conduct.”

Bairstow was also involved in the bizarre headbutt with Aussie batsman Cameron Bancroft at the start of the tour.

Although England took no action against Bairstow and did not believe he had done anything wrong, the Aussie players used the incident to sledge and mock Bairstow during the First Test.

Duckett was the first man to be voted both Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in 2016. He played four Tests in Bangladesh and India last winter but was then dropped.

This is not his first disciplinary scrape. He was dropped by England under-19s for being unfit.
