The Browns are blowing it up again.
ESPN reported Thursday that the team decided to fire executive vice president Sashi Brown, who was the head of the Browns’ personnel department, after nearly full two seasons on the job. The Browns plan on keeping Hue Jackson, who is 1-27 as Cleveland’s coach, for the 2018 season.
The search for a new general manager will begin immediately.
“Hue Jackson will remain our coach and will return for the 2018 season but we feel it is necessary to take significant steps to strengthen our personnel department,” owner Jimmy Haslam said in a statement.
The Browns not only missed out on drafting Carson Wentz and DeShaun Watson, but traded the picks with which both emerging star quarterbacks were selected, by the Eagles and Texans, respectively.
Cleveland took its usual incompetence a step further at the trade deadline, though, when the coaching staff and front office reportedly feuded over a lack of aggression to acquire Jimmy Garoppolo, who then was dealt to the 49ers.
The front office seemed prepared to atone for its sins by acquiring Bengals backup AJ McCarron, but forgot to file the necessary paperwork before the 4 p.m. deadline.
