OLDHAM ATHLETIC have signed Christian Benteke's brother Jonathan until the end of the season.
The Latics handed the Belgian forward a trial last week and he impressed enough to earn himself a short-term deal.
Benteke, 22, scored a goal in a Lancashire Senior Cup game against AFC Fylde and will now be hoping to add to that in League One.
Providing his international clearance comes through in time, he should be free to make his debut against Blackburn on Saturday.
The youngster was in the Premier League last season as one of his older sibling's team-mates at Crystal Palace.
He joined the Eagles in 2016 but made only one appearance for the club.
Benteke cruelly suffered an injury shortly after his arrival and ended up missing the majority of the campaign.
He began his career in his homeland and came through the ranks with Standard Liege.
After being released by them he went on to join Vise in the second division.
Benteke bagged twice in 20 appearances before he earned a return to the top-flight.
He then embarked on a two-year spell with Zulte-Waregem and scored two in 25 matches before moving to England and Selhurst Park.
Richie Wellens has moved to bring in the out of contract ace despite dismissing the idea of signing any free agents outside of the transfer window.
He told MEN last week: "Why are they out of contract? They haven't got a club for a reason.
"Either something is wrong in their character so the club want them out of the dressing room and pay them up, or they haven't had a club in the first place and are not good enough to get a club at this level.
"There are players out there who haven't got a club but do we want to get them now? Is that good planning and preparation? I think you're getting desperate if you start getting out of contact players.
"We had a Lancashire Senior Cup game against Fylde. They had two or three first team players in their team, and we had four trialists in the side and we got beat 3-1, so that speaks volumes."
