Gary Neville rips into Manchester United and admits Jose Mourinho's comments worry him

The Red Devils legend was speaking after his old side’s shock home defeat to West Brom on Sunday – which handed the title for Manchester City.

The nightmare display at Old Trafford came just eight days after United had come from behind to delay the inevitable and beat City 3-2 at the Etihad.

Old Trafford boss Mourinho slammed his squad’s attitude and inconsistencies after the Baggies upset and his comments have worried Neville.

Speaking on Sky Sports show Monday Night Football, the former England right-back said: “It was dismal, it was a dismal day.

“I suppose in some ways Manchester United stopped what would be this nightmare scenario last week of City winning the game at the Etihad in front of United’s fans obviously in that far end.

“But it was an appalling performance.

“Jose Mourinho mentioned the words ‘inconsistency’ and ‘attitude’.

“That’s difficult to coach out of people if that’s the problems that are occurring – inconsistency and attitude.

“So he has to identify the issues that he has in that changing room and in that squad that are causing those inconsistencies and lack of attitude in these types of matches and deal with it at the end of the season.”

Neville added: “I do agree with him, Manchester United didn’t lose the league yesterday, they lost it over a full season and Manchester City have been by far the best team and were always going to win it.

“But it was certainly a weak way to end.”

United are next in action on Wednesday night when they travel Bournemouth before this weekend's FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham at Wembley.
