It was only nine days ago that Nigel Harris played for the Chargers against the Giants, making two tackles on kickoff coverage in the fourth quarter. On Tuesday, the Giants were awarded Harris off waivers from the Chargers, who released him Monday.
A spot opened up on the Giants’ roster when Romeo Okwara was placed on season-ending injured reserve. The second-year defensive end suffered a sprained knee during practice last Thursday.
This turn of events opens the door for Avery Moss, the rookie defensive end from Youngstown State, a fifth-round draft pick. Moss has shown some promise as a pass-rusher and is coming off a season-high 42 defensive snaps played in a 23-10 victory this past Sunday night in Denver. Kerry Wynn started the past two games in place of Olivier Vernon (sprained ankle) and Moss is now next in line as a reserve defensive end.
Harris, an undrafted rookie out of South Florida, played in the first five games for the Chargers.
