Groves getting his excuses ready for when I beat him on Saturday claims Eubank

Chris Eubank Jnr claims George Groves can tell he is going to lose Saturday’s showdown.

The pair clash in front of a sold-out Manchester Arena in the semi-finals of the Ali Trophy and Eubank claims WBA super-middleweight Super champion Groves’ talk about his support team shows he will blame them if he does get beaten.

Eubank, 28, trains alone, with the help of his dad Chris Snr’s former cornerman Ronnie Davies and says, unlike Groves, that he accepts full responsibility for what happens to him in the ring.

“George has chosen to entrust his preparation and fitness to Shane McGuigan, who has been with him for two or three fights,” said the IBO super-middleweight champ. “It’s irresponsible in my view.

“He uses language like ‘we’, ‘we’re going to do this’, ‘Shane is going to get me ready’. That is ignorant in my view.

“George is using the word ‘we’ because, when he loses, he uses it to push the blame onto someone else — ‘the camp didn’t go right’, ‘Shane didn’t do this’, ‘my nutritionist didn’t do this’.

“I take responsibility for my actions.

“I’m not leaving the most important fight of my life… I’m not giving anyone else that responsibility, I’m not putting that in anyone else’s hands.”

Eubank, who is 26-1-0, also seized on Groves’ talk of retirement ahead of the super-middleweight clash, which is live on ITV Box Office, claiming this also betrays his lack of confidence.

“It’s very dangerous language for him to be using. Very bad,” he said. “Great for me, as it tells me a lot about his mentality.

“The word retirement would only ever be spoken if you guys say it to me. I would never bring that into an interview.

“The fact he has that in his mind is dangerous for him.”
