Incredible story of what really happened in infamous Bellamy-Souness bust-up

Kieron Dyer has revealed the incredible details behind what really happened during the infamous bust-up between Craig Bellamy and Graeme Souness.

The former Liverpool duo were together at Newcastle when Souness was boss and Bellamy was a player in 2004, report the Liverpool Echo.

The Scottish Reds legend had recently been named the manager of the North East outfit where Welsh winger Bellamy lined up as a player, two years before making a transfer to Anfield.

The pair were involved in a public dispute during Souness’ reign at St James’ Park, loaning the then 25-year-old midfielder out to Celtic on deadline day of the January transfer window in 2005.

Speaking to the Daily Mail ahead of the release of his new autobiography, the former Newcastle midfielder reveals that an incredible bust-up was sparked by one particular substitution involving Bellamy.

He explains that TV cameras had picked out Bellamy muttering ‘f****** prick’ in Souness’ direction after being substituted against Charlton.

It came after rumours Bellamy had been involved in an altercation with Nicky Butt before the match between England and Wales around a week earlier.

"He [Souness] had heard about their altercation and that Butty had threatened to beat the s*** out of Craig," claims Dyer. "‘I wish he had beaten the s*** out of you,’ Souness said.

"Craig had been warned by Dean Saunders, Souey’s assistant, not to answer back, but it wasn’t in Craig’s make-up to keep quiet. He started protesting that there hadn’t been any argument.

"‘See, this is the problem,’ Souness said. I could see he was about to go. He mentioned a few of the trophies he had won and some of the clubs he had played for.

"‘And then someone like you calls me a f****** p****,’ he said to Craig. ‘I’ll f****** knock you out.’"

Dyer then claims Souness tried to grab Bellamy by the throat and offered him into the gym to ‘sort this out like men’ only for Alan Shearer to intervene.

The incident left Bellamy speechless and Dyer believed it ‘knocked the stuffing’ out of the fiery hitman – with Souness putting down a marker.

Who would win in a fight?
