Riyad Mahrez has missed out on ‘the opportunity’ of a lifetime, according to Jamie Redknapp.
But the Sky Sports pundit says the Leicester star needs to put his Manchester City disappointment behind him and get back on the pitch.
Mahrez saw a Deadline Day move to the Etihad Stadium fall through after both clubs failed to reach an agreement with the Foxes refusing to sell.
The Algerian winger has not been seen since after the 2016 PFA Player of the Year went AWOL.
Leicester ironically play City this weekend and it is not known whether Mahrez, 26, will return.
But Redknapp, writing in his column for the Daily Mail , says the winger threatens to ruin his reputation if he continues to stay away.
“I do not condone a player going on strike,” said former Liverpool star Redknapp.
“I get why Riyad Mahrez is feeling aggrieved. Moving to Manchester City was the opportunity of a lifetime but Leicester priced him out of the market.
“If Mahrez continues declare himself unavailable, he risks ruining his reputation and legacy at Leicester.”
Redknapp added big clubs will continue to keep Mahrez on their radar if he keeps performing well.
Both Arsenal and Liverpool are also understood to be keen should City decide to pursue other targets this summer.
