The former One Direction star says Cheryl hasn’t left her days as an X Factor Judge behind her – because she’s still a fierce critic when it comes to music
LIAM Payne has revealed he’s nervous to play his new music to girlfriend Cheryl – because she’s such a harsh critic.
The singer says Cheryl – who was a Judge on X Factor the year One Direction were formed – has different tastes to him musically, so they’re forever bickering.
Speaking to Darryl Morris backstage at Free Radio Live, he said: “I was a little bit nervous playing my music to Cheryl for the first time. She’s a judge, she still judges.
"She’s quite critical so I mean, she really likes it but we have odd tastes, we have different tastes in stuff so it depends.
"I just love music in general so if I hear something and I say ‘I love it I love it’ and she’s like 'no’ so I have to listen. Sometimes she can be wrong but yeah she’s quite a harsh judge. It comes from her X Factor days”
Cheryl and Liam welcomed their first child together, Bear, in March this year and Liam says he’d quite like to be a stay at home dad.
He said: “I really wouldn’t mind being a stay at home dad. I wanna be the guy cooking the banana pancakes at home. I’m decent at cooking, I can blag it. If you throw in enough naughty stuff then it tends to taste alright.”
And the showbiz couple have big plans for Bear’s first Christmas – although Liam won’t be around to see much of it.
He said: “They grow up so fast. They say it to you when you’re a kid and you don’t really believe it but they really do.
"I’ve got a really gruelling Christmas schedule and I’m hoping not to miss him too much in-between the shows so I’m gonna try and get back to him. He just keeps getting bigger.
“It’s Bear’s first Christmas, we said we wouldn’t spoil him but we probably will. You cant help yourself, you have to. Santa, loads of lights around the house, big Christmas tree, it’s gonna be good. And obviously I have my little nephew now so there’s two first Christmas’s It’s not just the one in the family so we’ve gotta go all out.”
“It’s been fast and hard, you know with the family at home as well trying to balance family life and work life it’s what everyone is trying to do. It’s a whole new world.
"Bear’s a good kid, he’s fairly chilled so he’s not hard work”
Liam – who shot to fame alongside Zayn Malik, Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles and Niall Horan – has enjoyed calling the shots in his life since leaving 1D, but admits he sometimes misses his former band mates.
He added: “Solo life has been different in terms of time keeping is the only real difference I can massively see.
"When you’ve got five rowdy lads together we would turn up when they wanted you to turn up so now I’m solo I can turn up on my own time which is nice. I was always sort of first in the chair early mornings, whereas now I can take a little bit of time and it’s your own music.
"Your own songs, you’re representing yourself. It’s quite nice. You call the shots, it’s all on you.
“It’s been nice getting to go in with different writers that I wouldn’t usually go in with, writing different songs that I wouldn’t usually write."
