Manchester United news: Marouane Fellaini suffers knee injury as he is subbed off seven minutes after coming on against Tottenham

MAROUANE FELLAINI lasted just seven minutes against Tottenham before he was subbed off with a knee KO.

The big Belgian star was introduced from the bench just after the hour mark of the 2-0 defeat at Wembley.

He took the place of Jesse Lingard in the Red Devils midfield as Jose Mourinho attempted to shuffle his pack in order to find a way back against Spurs.

But just moments after making the change Fellaini was soon passing him by on the touchline as he left the action.

Fans were perplexed as Ander Herrera replaced him, wondering whether it was a forced change or purely tactical.

And Fellaini marched straight down the tunnel, adding further rumours on social media that he had simply been hooked by the Special One.

However, it later transpired that the ex-Everton man had in fact hurt himself while attempting to go for the ball with Tottenham's Christian Eriksen.

And a clip surfaced online of him holding his knee and struggling to walk.

Mourinho confirmed: "He came off because he had something in his knee.

"Unlucky for him and unlucky for me. He came on with enthusiasm but he has an injury in his ligament."

He only returned from injury in January after a month out on the sidelines.

The star is out of contract at the end of the season and is stalling on an extension at Old Trafford.

The 30-year-old is now free to talk to clubs abroad and looks set for a move to Turkey.

Meanwhile, United's setback has almost extinguished their faint title hopes.

Man City's victory over West Brom moved them 18 points clear of their neighbours at the top of the table.
