Reports suggest WWE could soon be returning to hosting dual Raw and SmackDown LIVE pay-per-views on a monthly basis.
An email to fans with tickets to this May’s WWE Backlash has increased speculation the company will be making the move post-WrestleMania 34.
According to Wrestling Observer Online , New Jersey’s Prudential Center emailed ticketholders mentioning it was a dual branded event and not Raw only on May 6.
Monday Night Raw and Tuesday’s SmackDown LIVE have held alternate monthly pay-per-views since the brand split back in July 2016.
WWE currently has four dual branded pay-per-views, it’s ‘Big Four’ events of Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series.
Additionally, this year’s Money In The Bank event, which will take place in Chicago, Illinois in June, was also to include both brands.
The sports entertainment giant had already scaled back from 16 pay-per-views in 2017 to only 14 this year, after axing Great Balls of Fire and No Mercy.
Discussing the situation on Wrestling Observer Radio, the website’s reporter Dave Meltzer said he was told an announcement was forthcoming.
However, the organisation reported that when contacted for official comment, WWE said it had nothing to announce at this time.
The next dual branded pay-per-view is of course WrestleMania 34, which will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on April 8.
