Back in June’s Batman #24, Bruce Wayne surprised us all by going down on one knee and proposing to his long-time love interest/rival Catwoman.
Since then, DC Comics has been teasing us with ‘The War of Jokes and Riddles’ storyline rather than revealing Selina Kyle’s answer – but in Wednesday’s Batman #32, she will say “yes”.
“That to me is what true love is,” writer Tom King told USA Today. “It’s showing who you truly are to someone. It’s letting someone know deep down who you are and that’s horribly frightening and it scares Batman as much as anything ever has.
“They’re two broken people, and because they’re broken, they have the edges that fit together.”
This technically isn’t the first time that Batman and Catwoman have tied the knot. In DC’s alternate Earth-2 (where older versions of the characters existed), Bruce and Selina were married and had a daughter, the vigilante Huntress. But in the main continuity, this is a hallmark moment.
Catwoman agreed to Batman’s proposal after he revealed a dark secret. Revealed to her, that is – we’re still being kept in the dark about what terrible thing he has lurking in his past.
The upcoming storyline will be titled ‘Rules of Engagement’. We’ll see if the superhero couple can make it to the far end of the aisle in one piece.
