If The CW’s Black Lightning really isn’t joining the rest of the Arrowverse, then we’re afraid DC TV is missing out, because our first look at Black Lightning’s legacy is so good.
We’ve already had our first look at Cress Williams’ take on Jefferson Pierce – aka Black Lightning – a superhero with the ability to control electricity, but now it’s time to introduce more of a family portrait.
Ahead of the brand new series’ premiere later this month, Black Lightning has released its first image of Pierce’s daughter Anissa, played by Nafessa Williams.
We knew that Anissa’s school teacher cover wouldn’t last long, and now we’ve seen just how awesome she looks as Thunder, we don’t blame her for joining her father’s line of work.
Black Lightning is due to air in the US over on The CW, but fear not, Brits – because the latest comic book series has been confirmed for Netflix UK, and will be available from January 23.

It’s worth pointing out, however, that Black Lightning is not part of the DC TV universe (for now, at least), as CW boss Mark Pedowitz has confirmed it’s a “separate situation”.
“Black Lightning, at this time, is not part of the Arrowverse. It is a separate situation,” he explained, which is pretty much what he said about Supergirl.
“We were fine with [the showrunners] making it separate from the Arrowverse, they have a different point a view. If they end up wanting to go that way, that will be their decision.”
Black Lightning will air on The CW in the US and on Netflix in the UK.
