Seth MacFarlane has drafted in Charlize Theron for a role on his new sci-fi spoof series The Orville.
The Oscar winner will be guest starring in a top secret role according to TVLine, which sounds really intriguing indeed.
MacFarlane and Theron have collaborated before on Seth’s 2014 western comedy A Million Ways to Die in the West, and as it’s a little break from tradition for Charlize to appear in a TV series, it must be a pretty good part.
The Star Trek spoof is set 400 years into the future and features MacFarlane as the pilot of the Orville – and he definitely wasn’t the first choice for the job.
The human and alien crew will be tackling the usual space missions and it seems there’ll be plenty of action and battles on board too.
Also starring in The Orville is Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Adrianne Palicki, Penny Johnson Jerald (Castle), ER star Scott Grimes, Shameless actor Peter Macon, J Lee (Family Guy) and Crisis‘s Halston Sage.
Elsewhere, Theron has been showing off her lethal fighting skills in her upcoming role in Atomic Blonde.
In one of the most anticipated films of the year, Theron plays an undercover MI6 agent – “an expert in escape and evasion” – who travels to Berlin and starts to track down a list of double agents, while investigating the murder of one of her colleagues.
The Orville kicks off with a two-night premiere on Sunday, September 10 and 17. The series then carries on from September 28 at 9pm on Fox.
