Cloak & Dagger TV series had been hiding a classic Marvel superhero in its cast

Cloak & Dagger has been hiding a classic Marvel superhero in its cast all along.

The Young Adult live-action series from US channel Freeform announced earlier this year that New Zealand-born Power Rangers Dino Thunder star Emma Lahana would be joining the show in an undisclosed role.

Entertainment Weekly is reporting that the reason Marvel Studios has kept some mystery around Lahana is because she will be playing comics character Detective Brigid O’Reilly.

Described as being “hardened from being too friendly or open” because of her New York background, there’s much more to Brigid O’Reilly than meets the eye.

O’Reilly becomes a major ally to Cloak and Dagger in the Marvel Comics lore when she’s resurrected from death after being double-crossed by corruption. Once she’s back from the dead, O’Reilly takes on the heroic identity of Mayhem and helps Cloak and Dagger battle against corrupt cops.

Brigid O’Reilly originally debuted in Cloak and Dagger’s Marvel origin story back in 1983, and has been closely associated with the teen heroes ever since.

Marvel Studios had been keeping another comics casting under wraps too. It’s been outed that the previously-cast Jaime Zevallos will play Father Delgado, a Cloak and Dagger ally who offers them shelter in his church.

The long-awaited TV adaptation of Cloak and Dagger earned rave reviews when it was screened earlier this year at the South by Southwest Film Festival in the US.

Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger debuts on Thursday, June 7 at 8pm ET on Freeform in the US. Amazon Prime will premiere the series in the UK on June 8.
