Coronation Street airs Aidan Connor's final scenes tonight as Shayne Ward bows out in a tragic storyline

Warning: This article contains discussion of suicide, which some readers may find upsetting.

Coronation Street airs Shayne Ward’s final episodes in the role of Aidan Connor tonight (May 7).

An emotional double bill explores the build-up to Aidan’s tragic suicide, which was officially announced by producers last week.

Aidan will be found dead at his flat in Wednesday night’s hour-long special, but tonight’s episodes are the last time he’ll be seen on screen.

Monday’s visits to Weatherfield see Aidan head off to see his ex-fiancée Eva Price (Catherine Tyldesley) at the secret cottage in Lymm.

Having finally figured out the truth about Eva’s baby deal with Toyah Battersby, Aidan is keen to see her and make amends for the past.

Aidan’s strange behaviour leaves Eva convinced that he might want to reunite with her, but in reality, he’s secretly saying goodbye.

Tonight’s episodes end with Aidan appearing depressed and distant as he spends time with his family at the Rovers Return.

Viewers will then see him break down at his flat, as his inner turmoil overwhelms him.

Coronation Street‘s producer Kate Oates recently explained: “The final scene in which we see Aidan is entirely of Shayne’s creation. Originally we were just going to see Aidan at the pub with his family. Life’s going on around him and he’s just completely dis-engaged.

“But Shayne instinctively said: ‘That feels really wrong to me. I think I need another moment and Aidan needs it too’. So we added a final scene of him breaking down at the flat. Now when I watch these episodes, they wouldn’t feel complete without it.”

Coronation Street airs tonight at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
