Jack is rushed into the centre by Faye Windass and Seb Franklin when they find Kevin Webster’s little lad collapsed on the stairs at home.
While medic Ali Neeson, played by James Burrows in the ITV soap, tells them he needs to get him to A&E, they take him over the road where a doctor tells a relieved Sophie that Jack is just suffering from a virus and to take him home.
But when Ali calls round later to check on Jack, he spots some worrying discolouration on the schoolboy’s fingers and toes and immediately calls an ambulance.
A doctor at the hospital tells the devastated Wesbters that Jack has sepsis – otherwise known as blood poisoning – and the next 24 hours are crucial.
While the little boy’s life hangs in the balance, a furious Sophie, played by Brooke Vincent, confronts Rana in the café and tells her that she’s considering suing the medical centre for negligence after missing Jack’s symptoms.
As Rana tries to defend her position, Sophie gets more and more irate and ends up slapping her across the face.
Sophie then storms off to see Adam Barlow and asks him about legal steps towards suing the medical centre.
Is she just trying to cover her own guilt for Jack’s hurting himself while in her care in the first case?
It was recently revealed Jack and dad Kevin would face an amputation horror following the youngster being diagnosed with the life threatening condition.
A Corrie source told The Mirror: “Corrie trainee doctor Ali Neeson sees Jack and calls an ambulance as he is concerned about sepsis. It turns out Jack contracted sepsis through a cut on his knee.
“His life hangs in the balance and Kevin is faced with the prospect of amputation for his son to keep him alive. It’s an emotional story line for Michael Le Vell and Kyran Bowes, who plays Jack.”
