Suranne Jones has revealed that she would like to return to her Coronation Street role as Karen McDonald.
The actress’ character caused chaos during her time on the soap and even more so during her marriage to Steve McDonald in 2001 before remarrying in 2004.
During their marriage, Karen found out that Steve was the father of Tracy Barlow’s baby leading to an almighty war between the two women.
After taking revenge on Tracy by making everyone believe that Amy was in the car that she set alight, Karen found herself pleading for Steve’s forgiveness before he declared that their marriage was over and asked her to leave.

However, 14 years on, Karen could surprise her ex boyfriend by returning to the street when Suranne revealed if she would return to her soap roots.
Agreeing to resurrect Karen if it was for a good cause, the actress told The Sun: “If it was for a good cause and we were going to raise a lot of money, I’d definitely consider it for Comic Relief.”
“I don’t have time to keep up with Corrie but I’m friends with Jennie McAlpine and Antony Cotton, so I do catch up,” she added.
Shocked that history had repeated itself when Steve had another baby with Leanne Battersby when he was with Michelle Connor, Suranne said: “But I didn’t know Steve had a baby – that is news to me and I am gobsmacked!’

Meanwhile, details about the third series of Doctor Foster have been revealed.
While Suranne has insisted that the third series of the critically acclaimed drama has yet to be confirmed, creator, Mark Bartlett recently explained that if and when the show does return, it will focus on Tom and his disappearance.
Speaking to the Radio Times, he said: “That ending of series two leaves a lot open to come back to: where has the son Tom gone and what’s happening to him?
“What happens to the parents? That’s the sort of story territory we’d be in.”
Reiterating the fact that nothing has been set in stone, Mark added: “It’s not written yet. No one has ever put pressure on me to make more of it.”

“I think the BBC would rather I did something new, but if we do bring Doctor Foster back it will only thrive if we do it at the right time.”
