Coronation Street's Kym Marsh reveals behind the scenes secrets from Phelan's gun attack on Michelle Connor's wedding day

In her warts and all account, she tells OK! magazine she even had to carry her own "fake blood soaked sponge."

The actress – who plays Michelle Connor on Coronation Street spoke about her character getting shot on the ITV soap by murderous Phelan.

She has been grappling with a terrifying storyline on the Cobbles as gunshots rung at her wedding to Robert Preston.

Michelle looked set to become Pat's fifth victim when he shot her on her wedding day.

Kym said in her weekly column in OK! Magazine : "I couldn't wear a blood pack [a device signed to release fake blood on cue] on my dress because it was too tight."

She added: "Instead I had a sponge filled with fake blood in my hand that no-one could see that I squished against myself."

Her husband-to-be Rob, played by Tristan Gemmill, attempted to protect her but she was shot in the stomach in the back of the Bistro.

The shocking scenes aired on Friday but were so gory they had to be aired after 9pm.

Fortunately, the actress revealed that Michelle will pull through as she's just signed a new year-long contract with the show.

Although Kym did tease fans in an appearance on This Morning when she confessed her statement on having a new contract could have been a "red herring."

The actress remained coy, saying: "Well there's been reports that it was renewed."

Before suggestively adding: "But is it a red herring? Just saying!"
