Corrie’s Zeedan to leave the soap in dramatic exit after shock attack on Kate

Zeedan Nazir may turn his back on Weatherfield after he fights back to stop a man from hurting Kate Connor and Rana Nazir.

Phil, a loudmouth on a night out, starts trying it on with Kate and Rana in a rather abusive way.

He keeps trying it and in a blaze of furious passion, Zeedan attacks him and leaves him bleeding on the gorund in front of Rana.

They run off but Zeedan is wracked with guilt about the man’s injuries, fearing the worst.

He asks Rana to do some investigative work for him at the hospital, to which she agrees as she feels sorry for him, despite insisting she wants a divorce and their marriage is over.

But things get more concerning for Zeedan when he sees the police questioning Steve McDonald about the attack, though the former pub landlord has little to tell them.

Rana tells Zeedan Phil will make a full recovery, at which Zeedan is incredibly relieved, but Phil tells the coppers he believes his attacker was an Asian male, which raises questions about Zeedan once again.

The police question Kate and Rana, who act dumb in the hope it will blow over.

The girls along with Alya and Yasmeen Nazir and Imran Habeeb head to the bistro with news of a good review, and find Zeedan packing his things up.

He tells them he must leave, not mentioning how heavily the attack on Phil is weighing on him, and Yasmeen and Alya beg him not to go.

Rana continues trying to convince him to stay – but is Zeedan’s mind made up?

Actor Qasim Akhtar announced his departure from the soap earlier this year, and a source close to the show said he will be leaving to pursue other projects.

The source told The Sun : "Qasim has been really popular among the cast and viewers but has decided he wants to do other things in the short term.

"He was a successful actor before he came onto Corrie so is looking forward to having another crack at something new.

"It was entirely his decision to leave."

A spokesperson from the soap said of his departure: "Qasim is a talented actor who has been involved in some great storylines.

"We wish him every success for the future."
