Of the two super creepy horror films everyone is talking about, IT is still terrifying viewers and retaining the number one spot in the US box office for the second week.
The nightmare-inducing Stephen King adaptation took an impressive $60 million this weekend according to Box Office Mojo, which isn’t shabby at all.
IT currently holds the title for the third best launch weekend of 2017 so far behind Beauty and the Beast and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2.
The Dylan O’Brien-starring American Assassin has debuted at number two taking 14.8 million against a $33 million budget, and keeping Darren Aronofsky’s mother! at bay.
The weird horror which stars Jennifer Lawrence in the titular role, has failed to set the box office alight, taking just $7.5 million in its opening weekend of frightening people.
The film, which we at Digital Spy thought was “batshit crazy” – in a good way – seems to have not struck a chord with cinemagoers despite being called the “most controversial blockbuster since A Clockwork Orange“.
So much so that CinemaScore has awarded it an F rating, which isn’t ideal really, especially since critics seem to love it.
IT and American Assassin were both awarded a B+ by them.
In the number four spot this week is the Reese Witherspoon-starring Home Again down from number two, taking $5,334,160 and The Hitman’s Bodyguard is at number five, taking $3,550,000 this weekend.
The rest of the top 10 for this week consists of Annabelle: Creation, Wind River, Leap!, Spiderman: Homecoming and Dunkirk.
