Warning: The following article contains major spoilers for Marvel’s The Defenders.
A sneak peek at Daredevil‘s upcoming third season addresses that jaw-dropping cliffhanger at the end of spin-off Marvel’s The Defenders.
The team-up of Netflix’s interconnected shows had two cliffhangers of sorts, both involving Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox). An initial fake-out made it look like Matt died fighting his evil girlfriend Elektra (Elodie Yung) as the Midland Circle skyscraper imploded in one last act of sacrifice for his Defenders teammates.
However, a brief scene tacked on at the very end of the Defenders finale revealed that a battered-but-alive Matt had been pulled from the rubble somehow and was being tended to by a nun.
Netflix played on both of these cliffhangers with the first official look at Daredevil‘s third season, which initially appears just to be a flyer for Matt Murdock’s funeral.
However, the caption gives the game away: “I’m fine.”
Somewhere, the Devil of Hell’s Kitchen is healing, and soon enough he’ll probably be back prowling for crooks once again. We wouldn’t expect any less of Matt Murdock.
This teaser does nothing to quiet the speculation that season three will tackle the Marvel Comics storyline Born Again, which could mark the return of the Kingpin of Crime (Vincent D’Onofrio).
There have also been indications that the upcoming episodes may feature the arrival of Daredevil’s greatest foe, the sharpshooting assassin Bullseye.
Daredevil is expected to return next year, but there’s no firm date announced yet.
