District 9 and Elysium director Neill Blomkamp has launched a new film project called Oats Studios, also releasing a trailer for the studio’s upcoming project Oats Volume 1.
Opening with a shot of an overgrown Eiffel Tower, the trailer explains that a series of experimental short films is on its way to stream on Steam.
The clip then explains that aliens have come to exterminate humanity, revealing the lizard-like creatures alongside American soldiers and trucks flying Texas flags.
Previously, Blomkamp teased Oats Studios with a snap of his latest monster, writing on Twitter: “Hope people get behind this experimental studio. Trying ideas out. Monsters coming…”
Back in April, he tweeted: “If I sold experimental short films on @steam_games as tests for potential full feature films, would people watch them?”
He also unleashed a short trailer earlier this month for the new project.
More recently, Blomkamp had been working on a proposed Alien 5 movie – although we won’t be seeing it in cinemas after all.
Despite the film’s “slim” possibility of being made, as confirmed by Blomkamp himself, Alien mastermind Sir Ridley Scott recently revealed that it did once have a name – Alien: Awakening.
The film was due to be directed by Blomkamp and produced by Scott, and intended to bring Sigourney Weaver’s Ripley back to the story somehow.
