Don’t Breathe 2 is still very much coming to scare the shit out of us.
A sequel was announced back in November after Don’t Breathe became one of the surprise hits of the year, grossing more than $150 million at the worldwide box office.
But since then we’ve not heard anything about it, and director Fede Alvarez has signed up for both the Labyrinth sequel and The Girl in the Spider’s Web, so it’s no surprise that some have been wondering if it’s happening at all.
Alvarez has put our minds at ease, though, in one short and sweet Twitter reply. “Please tell me there’s a Don’t Breathe 2 coming,” a fan asked, with the director replying: “There is.”
Given his busy schedule, it’s not yet clear if Alvarez will be directing the sequel or just overseeing it, but he does have an idea for it.
Speaking to IGN in November, the director let slip that it will focus on Stephen Lang’s terrifying villain, the Blind Man. “The challenge obviously is we just don’t want to do the same movie again and just have 2 in it,” Alvarez added.
“I’d love to see the Blind Man on the screen do some other things. What’s going to happen with him in his life?”
Before then, Alvarez has got to decide on who to take over from Rooney Mara as Lisbeth Salander in The Girl in the Spider’s Web, and The Crown‘s Claire Foy is reportedly in the lead.
It’s said that the only thing that could be stopping Foy being cast is her schedule, which should be freeing up soon as she isn’t doing a third season of The Crown.
