The presenter, 58, confessed that it got to the point where he wanted her to be booted out of the show.
Ruth lasted eight weeks on the dancing show with her professional partner Anton du Beke before being voted out.
Eamonn told The Sunday People: "[Strictly] put our relationship under a lot of pressure.
"I told her, 'Why don't you get knocked out?' but she loved it and adores Anton."
Eamonn's comments come as a slight shock, as his wife Ruth previously insisted the show was 'good' for their marriage.
She said: "I’m not worried about a curse.
"If anything, it’s been the opposite – Eamonn loves me looking so glamorous.
"On a Saturday night, before I go into make-up, he’ll ask who he’s going home with that night.
"The blonde hair was a very big hit."
She even suggested she'd borrowed a wig from hair and make-up to use in the bedroom.
Ruth said on Loose Women: "Eamonn loved it.
"I’m bringing a wig home every week!"
