EastEnders airs Michelle Fowler's final scenes as Jenna Russell bows out

EastEnders has aired Michelle Fowler’s final scenes as she decided to leave Walford for a fresh start tonight (April 17).

It had already been confirmed that Jenna Russell was leaving the show after just over a year of playing Michelle, but exact details of her exit had been kept under wraps until transmission.

Tuesday’s episode of the BBC soap saw Michelle desperately try to prove her innocence, after troublesome Hunter Owen lied that she’d made a move on him.

Hunter had used Michelle’s controversial history with former pupil Preston against her when she caught him and Louise in a compromising position.

With Michelle insisting that there is no truth in Hunter’s allegations, both Mel and Sharon started to doubt the schoolboy’s claims tonight – finally realising that there was much more to this story.

Although Hunter and Louise eventually did the right thing and came clean, the incident prompted Michelle to reconsider her life in Walford given all her history there.

Realising that people would always think the worst of her in Walford, Michelle ultimately decided to pack her bags and head abroad – after an emotional heart-to-heart with Sharon.

Jenna made her debut as Michelle on Christmas Eve 2016 – taking over the role from Susan Tully, who’d last appeared in 1995.

EastEnders continues on Thursday, April 19 at 7.30pm on BBC One.
